In 2022, Vietnam’s exports of coconut and coconut products reached over 900 million USD - according to the Vietnam Coconut Association. This does not include those made from coconut wood and commercial handicraft products using raw materials from the trees. So maintaining raw material areas for the industry, improving the value of products, and ensuring incomes for farmers are major goals of Vietnam’s coconut sector this year.
Vietnam has 175,000 hectares under coconut, mainly in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta and the central coast, with the formal accounting for nearly 80%.
The processing industry has developed some 200 products like candy, fibre, shell charcoal, oil, coconut milk, and carpet, besides fresh coconut.
Nowadays, many local coconut businesses are further investing in modern processing technology to make products of international quality and export to many markets including demanding ones
With proper marketing, coconut products would gain traction in international markets. Currently Vietnam has been attended to many famous and large exhibition all around the world (United States, Dubai, China, Thailand,…)
Demand for coconuts by 2023:
According to the influential Forecasting Centers, the increase in global demand for coconut products is as follows:
- Coconut milk increased by 15%
- Coconut jelly increased by 5.6%
- Desiccated coconut increased by 6.6%
- Coconut water increased by 25%
- Virgin coconut oil increased by 21%
Average increase of more than 10%
The high increase is due to change according to consumer preferences and catch up with new trend: Eat clean and stay healthy.
With advantages, cultivation conditions and production experiences, Vietnam will have more advantages in coconuts industry than other countries.
